King Charles III today, May 13, opened the new session of Parliament at Palace of Westminster and emphasized in his speech the continuation of support for Ukraine in its fight for freedom.
The text of the speech was published on the British government’s website.
“In this volatile world, my Government will continue to pursue foreign policy based on a calm assessment of the national interest. It will continue its unflinching support for the brave people of Ukraine, who fight on the frontline of freedom.”
Charles III also stressed that British ministers would work to strengthen relations with European partners, calling it “a vital step in strengthening European security.”
“My Government will also uphold the United Kingdom’s unbreakable commitment to NATO and our NATO allies, including through a sustained increase in defence spending,” he said.
In addition, the monarch announced that next year the United Kingdom, during its presidency of the G20, will host a summit of the group’s member states. He noted that the goal of the meeting will be to stimulate global economic growth and strengthen stability, which is important for the well-being of the country’s citizens.
