In January 2026, the Rssian forces occupied 245 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory, which is almost half as much as in December and November of last year, according to the OSINT project DeepState on its Telegram channel.

According to the project’s data, the highest number of assault operations occurred in the Pokrovsk sector, accounting for 33% of all attacks.

The Huliaipole sector ranked second with 21% of assaults, where activity increased by 1.75 times. Meanwhile, the Kostiantynivka, Lyman, and Oleksandrivka sectors recorded 12%, 8%, and 8% of attacks respectively.

“The Sloviansk sector became a negative record-holder: nearly 20% of territorial losses occurred there despite accounting for only 3% of assaults,” DeepState’s authors note.

Despite an overall 4% decrease in activity compared to December, most military personnel assess January as a relatively less intense month.
