The People’s Republic of China has opened its market for the import of Ukrainian peas following a conducted audit.
According to the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, this decision creates new opportunities for domestic farmers and expands Ukraine’s export presence in one of the world’s largest food markets.
The agency received a letter from the Embassy of Ukraine in China regarding the review by the Department of Animal and Plant Quarantine of the General Administration of Customs of China of technical and video materials about enterprise operations and laboratory testing capabilities for exporting Ukrainian peas.
“As a result of reviewing the technical and video documentation, China has granted Ukraine permission to export peas,” the agency emphasized.
Currently, the General Administration of Customs of China has registered two Ukrainian enterprises for storage and processing of peas that participated in the audit. According to the protocol, exports of Ukrainian peas to China may be carried out from these enterprises.
At present, the State Service has included three enterprises in the list planning to export peas to China, and four enterprises in the list of those growing peas for export to China.
“To export Ukrainian peas to China, enterprises involved in growing, storing, processing, and exporting must comply with the ‘Roadmap’ requirements. This document defines the key steps for entering the Chinese market,” the agency noted.
The protocol on phytosanitary requirements for exporting peas from Ukraine to China, the Roadmap, and information about enterprises currently eligible to start exporting based on the audit results are available on the State Service’s web portal under: Activity → Phytosanitary, Seed and Nursery Control → Phytosanitary Requirements of Countries → Phytosanitary Requirements of the People’s Republic of China (IPPC).
