Widespread Russian strikes in Ukraine cause casualties and infrastructure damage

Over the past days, Russian forces have carried out widespread attacks across multiple regions of Ukraine, targeting energy facilities, residential buildings, and public infrastructure. Drone strikes, missile attacks, artillery shelling, and multiple-launch rocket systems have hit both urban and rural areas, leaving civilians injured, causing fires, and damaging homes, utilities, and critical services.

On the night of February 9, Russian forces struck an energy facility near the Novovolynsk community in Volyn region. The attack was reported by Borys Karpus, mayor of Novovolynsk. According to Karpus, the water supply in the area depends on the power grid, and the local treatment facilities are now operating on generators. Some boiler houses have switched to generator operation, and fuel supplies are available. All responsible services have been deployed, and authorities say the situation is under control.

In Kherson region, six people were injured over the past day due to Russian attacks. Settlements including Antonivka, Zymivnyk, Prydniprovske, Chornobaivka, Dariivka, Mykilske, Novotiahynka, Poniativka, Tokarivka, Bilozerka, Dniprovske, Kizomys, Stanislav, Beryslav, Mylove, Dudchany, Kachkarivka, Nova Kamianka, Novoraisk, Burhunka, Mykhailivka, Novokairy, Osokorivka, Chervonyi Maiak, Vesele, Kozatske, and the city of Kherson came under drone attacks, airstrikes, and artillery shelling, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional State Administration. The strikes damaged three apartment buildings, 54 private houses, an administrative building, a gas pipeline, and a private vehicle.

In Zaporizhzhia region, Russian forces carried out 499 attacks on 24 settlements, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration. The attacks included 11 airstrikes on Liubytske, Barvinivka, Nizhenka, Zelena Dibrova, Kopani, and Vozdvyzhivka. In addition, 298 drones, mostly FPV, targeted multiple towns, while four strikes from multiple launch rocket systems and 186 artillery strikes hit settlements including Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Dorozhnianka, Varvarivka, Zelene, Solodke, Dobropillia, and Pryluky. Sixteen reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure were received, though no civilian injuries were reported.

In Sumy region, nearly 90 strikes hit 28 settlements across 15 territorial communities, injuring seven people. In Shostka community, two women aged 25 and 35 and two men aged 34 and 36 were injured. A 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were injured in Sumy community, while a 33-year-old man was injured in Komyshany community. Attacks damaged shops, catering establishments, outbuildings, private homes, vehicles, and civilian infrastructure facilities. The heaviest strikes were recorded in Sumy and Shostka districts.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, a drone attack in Shakhtarske, Synelnykove district, injured nine people, including a 13-year-old girl. A 57-year-old woman is in serious condition, while others are in moderate condition. A three-storey apartment building caught fire, with damage to the roof and floors, and windows were shattered in a nearby building. Russian drones also struck Vasylkivka community, damaging three private homes and causing a fire. FPV drone attacks hit the city of Nikopol and the Marhanets and Chervonohryhorivka communities, with no casualties reported.

In Donetsk region, Russian attacks killed two residents in Kramatorsk and Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, while seven others were injured, according to Vadym Filashkin, head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Donetsk region has recorded 4,014 deaths and 8,871 injuries, excluding Mariupol and Volnovakha.

In Kharkiv region, ten settlements came under Russian attacks on February 8, resulting in two deaths and six injuries, including a minor girl. In Bohodukhiv, a 41-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy were killed, while a 22-year-old man, a 68-year-old man, and an 89-year-old woman were injured. In Zolochiv, a 17-year-old girl suffered an acute stress reaction, while in Luzhok of the Malodanylivka community, an 18-year-old girl and a 73-year-old man were injured. The attacks involved four guided aerial bombs (GABs), six Geran-2 drones, one Molniya-type UAV, five FPV drones, and an unidentified UAV. Damage included private houses, administrative buildings, apartment buildings, shops, vehicles, and school buildings across Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv, and Chuhuiv districts.
