Ukraine ranked 3rd in total medals and 7th in gold medals at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, the National Paralympic Committee reported.
“For the second time in history, twenty years after the Turin 2006 Games, the Paralympics returned to Italy. The XIV Winter Paralympic Games took place from March 6 to 15, 2026, in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italian Republic). These Games were historic, marking the 50th anniversary of the first Winter Paralympic Games,” the Committee’s statement said.
China had the largest number of athletes competing in six sports at the Paralympics with 70 participants, while the United States (68 athletes), Canada (46 athletes), and Italy (42 athletes) also fielded significant teams.
By delegation size, Ukraine ranked 7th among participating countries at the 2026 Games.
“For Ukraine, these Games were the eighth Winter Paralympics in the history of the national team’s participation and the second Games prepared for and competed in under martial law conditions in Ukraine,” the NPC noted.
Ukrainian athletes competed for 34 of 79 medal sets across three of the six sports: para cross-country skiing, para biathlon, and para alpine skiing (including para snowboarding).
At the conclusion of the XIV Winter Paralympic Games, Ukrainian athletes won 19 medals: 3 gold, 8 silver, and 8 bronze.
In the overall team standings, Ukraine placed 3rd in total medals and 7th in gold medals.
In para biathlon, 18 medal sets were contested. Ukrainian athletes won 16 medals: 3 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze. By results in para biathlon, Ukraine ranked 2nd in gold medals and 1st in total medals.
In para cross-country skiing, Ukrainian athletes competed for 15 of 20 possible medal sets and won 3 medals: 2 silver and 1 bronze, ranking 9th among 31 countries worldwide.
The top Ukrainian performers at the Games were: Oleksandra Kononova – 5 medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze); Taras Rad – 4 medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze); and Oleksandr Kazik with guide Serhii Kucheriavyi – 3 medals (1 gold, 2 silver).
Additionally, nine Ukrainian athletes finished just outside the podium in fourth place.
“The XIV Winter Paralympic Games were further proof of the high level of Ukraine’s national Paralympic team, which continues to deliver consistent results among the strongest teams in the world even during wartime. These Games were not just about winning medals. In every race, at every finish, our athletes were defending much more—the right of Ukraine to peace, freedom, and dignity,” the Committee emphasized.
