The Ukrainian innovation cluster Brave1, together with the Office for Effective Regulation (BRDO), and with the support of the European Union, is launching the second phase of the joint grant program EU4UA Defence Tech. The focus of this stage is the localization of component development for unmanned systems in Ukraine.

“11 teams will be able to receive grants for development — up to €75,000 each. The target technology readiness level is TRL 4–5. Applications open on April 30,” the Brave1 press service reported.

Experts will assess applications based on innovative potential and scientific novelty, technical level and current TRL, availability of production facilities and qualified personnel, potential for cooperation with the EU, project sustainability, and budget justification.

The competition has been launched for the development and research of prototypes of unmanned systems components, including electric motors, flight controllers, cameras, thermal imaging systems, onboard computers, and sensors for UAVs. The selection process includes compliance checks, defense expertise, and a final pitch. Projects will be evaluated by a commission including representatives of Brave1, BRDO, the EU Defence Innovation Office in Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, and an independent anti-corruption observer.

“By developing the component industry, we ensure our own technological independence. Localization of production will significantly speed up the delivery of necessary technologies to the military. Moreover, the component market has enormous export potential, and Ukraine has every chance to replace China as the main supplier of components to Europe. The EU4UA Defence Tech grant program is one of the steps toward making this a reality,” the statement said.

The EU4UA Defence Tech project is funded by the European Union and implemented by BRDO in partnership with Brave1.
