The Security Service of Ukraine says it has successfully carried out a drone strike on the Saky and Hvardiiske military airfields in occupied Crimea. The strike on the Saky airfield was the second carried out this week.
“At the Saky airfield, seven aircraft hangars were hit. They housed Su-30SM, Su-30, and Su-24 fighter and frontline bomber aircraft. According to preliminary information, at least seven aircraft were destroyed or damaged... At the Hvardiiske military airfield, two hangars containing Shahed UAVs and aviation equipment were struck,” the security service said on its website on Friday.
Both airfields are among the key aviation bases of the Russian forces in Crimea, from which tactical aircraft regularly take off to launch missile and bomb strikes against Ukraine and support Russian military operations on the southern front.
“Every one of our special operations means fewer enemy aircraft, logistics assets, warehouses, equipment, and infrastructure supporting Russian aggression. We will continue to exert maximum pressure on the enemy both on the front line and deep in its rear, depriving it of the ability to wage war against Ukraine,” said SSU chief Yevhenii Khmara.
A previous strike was reported on July 1. At that time, two hangars housed Su-30 and Su-30SM fighter jets when they were hit. Following the attack, a fire was recorded in the hangar containing the Su-30SM, indicating that the target had been successfully struck.
