Russia and North Korea are close to completing construction of their first road bridge connection, marking a new stage in expanding economic and logistical ties between the two countries.

Satellite imagery published by OSINT analyst Brady Africk suggests that the main construction work on the bridge is largely finished. According to official statements, the project is expected to be fully completed in the coming months.

The new bridge is being built near an existing railway link and will allow direct road transport between the two countries for the first time. Until now, trade and connections between Moscow and Pyongyang have relied primarily on maritime routes and a single rail corridor.

The infrastructure project reflects deepening cooperation between Russia and North Korea, which has intensified since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. During a 2024 summit, leaders from both countries agreed to expand economic and military ties.

The addition of a road bridge is expected to significantly enhance trade logistics by creating a third transport route between the two nations.

Analysts say the project underscores a broader trend of closer coordination among countries maintaining ties with Moscow, including China and Iran. For Ukraine and its allies, the development of new trade routes is seen as a potential challenge, particularly as the war enters its fifth year.

Construction of the bridge has been underway for more than a year and is now approaching its final stage, further cementing the growing partnership between Russia and North Korea.
