On Sunday, April 5, Pope Leo XIV, after the Holy Mass at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, addressed Rome and the world from the central loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica with an Easter message, calling on world leaders to pursue peace, Vatican News reports.

“In the light of Easter, let us allow Christ to amaze us! Let His boundless love for us change our hearts! Let those who hold weapons lay them down! Let those in power, who stir up wars, choose peace! Peace achieved not by force, but through dialogue! Not with the desire to dominate others, but to meet them!” the pontiff said.

On the occasion of the holiday, the Pope urged the faithful to reject “any desire for dispute, domination, and power, and let us beseech the Lord to grant His peace to the world,” which has been ravaged by wars and marked by hatred and indifference that “make us feel powerless before evil.”

“Let us entrust to the Lord all hearts that suffer and long for true peace, which only He can give. Let us trust Him and open our hearts to Him! Only He can make all things new!” said the Holy Father.

Pope Leo also invited the faithful to join a prayer vigil for peace, which will take place at St. Peter’s Basilica next Saturday, April 11.
