The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and approved for use in the Armed Forces an unmanned aerial system Shvidun, produced in Ukraine.
It was specifically developed to intercept strike drones such as the Shahed-136, Geran, Gerbera, as well as reconnaissance drones like Zala, Supercam, and Skat.
The Shvidun UAS is made of durable composite materials. It weighs about 8 kg, with a wingspan of nearly 2 meters. The drone can climb to an altitude of up to 6 km and reach speeds exceeding 250 km/h.
Its operational range is over 70 km, which is sufficient to help protect the skies over any Ukrainian city.
Thanks to the use of innovative technological solutions, the aircraft’s body does not experience flutter (vibration) at high speeds, allowing the onboard camera to transmit a максимально clear image to the operator.
Even with its high maximum flight speed, the Shvidun UAS has relatively low takeoff and landing speeds. This makes it possible to land the aircraft if the target is lost and reuse it. Overall, the Shvidun can remain airborne for more than 2 hours.
The first units are already in operation, protecting Ukrainian cities.
At present, the Shvidun UAS has one of the highest interception success rates against Shahed drones among Ukrainian-made interceptor drones.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have already destroyed around one hundred Russian UAVs using this drone.
