The Dutch Army is preparing to create multiple drone operator units, which will be integrated into all larger army units to provide them with an unmanned component, NL Times reports.

In April, the Dutch Army will begin recruiting 1,000–1,200 people interested in working with drones and technologies to counter enemy drones for training and subsequent integration into various military units — taking into account the realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war and conflicts in the Middle East. As a result, every army unit is expected to have a drone component.

Commander-in-Chief Onno Eichelsheim noted that in modern warfare, drones and counter-drone technologies play a much greater role than before.

“It is a different interaction. We must continuously modernize and adapt systems,” he said.

According to him, the Netherlands will become the first NATO country to comprehensively integrate drones and counter-drone technologies into its military.

The Commander-in-Chief emphasized that alongside technological development, close cooperation with manufacturers in the field of drone technologies is also crucial.
