Starting September 12, 2025, direct passenger trains will run from Uzhhorod on European-gauge tracks to three EU capitals — Bratislava, Vienna, and Budapest. This became possible thanks to the commissioning of a new 22-kilometer section of 1435 mm standard European-gauge track between Chop and Uzhhorod.
Ticket sales opened on September 5. Tickets can be purchased via the official UZ Booking app and website, as well as on the online platforms of the Hungarian and Slovak railways.
Train schedules:
№961/618 Uzhhorod – Bratislava
Uzhhorod (8:09) → Bratislava (18:33)
Bratislava (11:27) → Uzhhorod (22:35)
№146 Uzhhorod — Budapest — Vienna
Uzhhorod (8:09) → Budapest (14:20) → Vienna (17:20)

From December 2025, when the timetable is updated, passengers will have convenient connections with domestic routes. In particular, there will be more night trains timed for easy transfers to European trains.
“We already operate 25 international routes to 10 EU cities, but due to different track gauges, passengers often have to spend hours transferring. Launching direct trains from Uzhhorod to Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary without stops or transfers represents a completely new level of convenience and mobility for Ukrainians,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Balesta.
