Russia could follow the example of peace restoration through the adoption of a joint declaration between the Republic of Congo and Rwanda on resolving the long-standing conflict in the African continent, said Andriy Yermak, the Head of the President's Office.
"We welcome the important result achieved in the restoration of peace on the African continent, thanks to U.S. mediation. On April 25, a Declaration of Principles was signed in Washington between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, forming a path toward resolving the long-standing conflict in the Great Lakes region," he wrote on Telegram on Monday morning.
Yermak emphasized that the key aspect of this process is that Rwanda, the Republic of Congo, and the United States, as a mediator, have laid the foundation for future peace settlement based on universally recognized principles of international law, as enshrined in the UN Charter.
These principles include mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and state borders, the commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful means, diplomacy, and negotiations, as well as refraining from interference in each other's internal affairs.
"Russia can follow this example, stop its tactics of manipulation, procrastination, and terror against Ukraine’s civilian population, and agree to a complete and unconditional ceasefire as the first step toward ending the war against Ukraine," he emphasized.
According to him, applying the principles of the UN Charter to end the war in Europe is just as feasible as resolving conflicts in Africa.
