Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s armed aggression is seen not only as a national or even European issue, but as a universal defense of democratic freedom.
This was stated by Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chair of the NATO Military Committee, at the Kyiv Security Forum.
“Ukraine’s struggle is no longer viewed only as a national issue or even just a European issue, but as a universal defense of democratic freedom. Defending Ukraine means defending freedom and the right of its people to determine their own future,” he said.
Dragone added that:
"NATO, for its part, is firmly committed to countering hybrid threats from adversaries by increasing societal resilience, protecting critical infrastructure, and improving coordination."
He also noted that:
"Kyiv teaches something fundamental: freedom has a price, and peace without strength is merely an illusion. That is why support for Ukraine remains a priority. What is at stake is the credibility of the international order on which all nations depend. Ukraine today is an integral part of the democratic community that defends these principles."
The admiral stressed that he is proud to work alongside the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which in a short time have achieved an extraordinary level of operational effectiveness and are providing lessons to NATO allies.
The 18th Kyiv Security Forum is taking place in the capital of Ukraine — a leading international event for discussing issues of war, peace, and global security.
