Europe and Ukraine in particular need their own anti-ballistic systems to protect themselves from existing threats, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said while commenting on a Russian attack overnight into Monday that caused dozens of injuries and extensive destruction across 8 regions.
“Russia relies on ballistic missiles to strike people, and that is why we must do everything in Europe to ensure there is reliable protection against this. Europe must have its own anti-ballistic systems and be self-sufficient against these threats. We repeat again: we need our own anti-ballistic defense and strengthening of Ukrainian air defense right now,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Monday.
He announced that work with partners to strengthen protection of lives will continue this week, without specifying details of the negotiations.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces neutralized 503 drones and four missiles out of 524 drones and 22 missiles launched by the Russian forces overnight, with impacts recorded from 18 missiles and 16 attack UAVs across 34 locations. The attack is ongoing, and air raid alerts have been issued in several regions.
