The SSU’s Cybersecurity Department systematically protects Ukraine’s information and digital security in wartime conditions. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, specialists from the Department have neutralized over 14,000 large-scale cyberattacks and incidents targeting central government resources and critical infrastructure.
This was stated by Volodymyr Karastelov, Head of the SSU Cybersecurity Department, in the documentary film “Ukraine’s Cyber Shield.”
“Cybersecurity Department opposes the enemy on multiple fronts simultaneously. First, we counter specialized Russian units and their associated hacker groups. They regularly attack Ukraine, and since the start of the full-scale invasion, the SSU has repelled over 14,000 such attempts. Second, we actively counter the enemy in the information environment, neutralizing so-called IPSO campaigns, which Russia carries out against both Ukraine and partner states,” Karastelov said.
According to the head of the Cybersecurity Department, in 2025, SSU cyber specialists repelled over 3,000 enemy cyberattacks on Ukrainian systems. Most Russian attacks aimed either to destroy digital services or destabilize the operations of strategically important enterprises in the energy, transport, and defense sectors.
In the documentary “Ukraine’s Cyber Shield,” SSU specialists reveal how they prevent enemy intrusions, block attacks on critical military and government networks, repel DDoS attacks, phishing campaigns, counter cyber-espionage, and digital terrorism.
“Importantly, we are not only defending. The SSU and our partners in the Armed Forces conduct systematic proactive operations in the enemy’s digital space. Ukraine hits the enemy hard, but we cannot disclose the details yet. What’s crucial is that the SSU’s Cybersecurity Department does everything to protect the information and digital space of our state,” concluded Volodymyr Karastelov.
