At least five people were killed and 25 injured after Russian missiles struck the city of Pryluky in Chernihiv region on Wednesday morning, hitting an apartment building and other civilian sites.

According to regional governor Viacheslav Chaus, one of the missiles struck a residential building at around 6 a.m., when many residents were still asleep.

“Five people were killed in the missile strike on the apartment building. At least 25 people were injured. Unfortunately, the number of victims may be higher,” Chaus said.

Emergency crews are continuing to search through the rubble. Three people have been rescued, including a child.

Police said Russian forces launched a series of missile strikes on Pryluky. In addition to the apartment building, a children and youth creativity centre and an enterprise were hit.

The attacks also damaged other civilian and municipal infrastructure. A fire broke out in an industrial building at another location.
