Violinist Daniel Hope will explore 150 years of Ukrainian musical history in his new album Born in Ukraine, bringing together works by composers from Mykola Lysenko and Mykola Leontovych to Valentin Silvestrov and contemporary Ukrainian voices.

Born in Ukraine – 150 Years of Ukrainian Music is conceived as a personal tribute to the country and what Hope describes as “a journey into Ukrainian musical identity”, exploring themes of memory, displacement, belonging, resilience and hope.

The programme includes music by Lysenko, Yakiv Stepovy, Sergei Bortkiewicz, Borys Lyatoshynsky, Leontovych and Silvestrov, alongside works by composers writing today.

Hope is joined on the recording by three young Ukrainian pianists — Alina Pronina, Roman Fediurko and Vitalii Kyianytsia.

The album also includes two world-premiere recordings. The first track released ahead of the album is the premiere recording of Alexey Shor’s Footprints in the Sand.

Through both familiar melodies and lesser-known works, the project traces the development of Ukrainian music across different generations, connecting composers who worked in Ukraine with those whose lives and music were shaped by exile and displacement.

Born in Ukraine will be released digitally and on CD on November 6, 2026.
