Rome firefighters stage concert for Ukraine and world peace

On Sunday 7 June, Rome’s Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone will host Firemen and Music for World Peace, a charity concert organised by Rome’s firefighters to draw attention to the wars that continue to scar communities across the globe, with a particular focus on Ukraine.

Firefighters have long embodied the values of solidarity, public service and courage in times of crisis. This event seeks not only to celebrate those values through music, but also to transform them into practical support for colleagues working on the front lines of war.

The concert has a dual purpose: to inspire what organisers describe as a “spark of peace” among participants, and to raise funds for the purchase of an armoured civilian vehicle for Ukrainian firefighters. The vehicle will provide vital protection for emergency crews operating under hostile fire, enabling them to reach wounded civilians and carry out rescue operations in some of the most dangerous areas of the country.

The evening will be hosted by journalist and radio presenter Francesco Vergovich. Among its most moving moments will be a piano performance by Yulia, a five-year-old Ukrainian girl who has experienced the realities of war first-hand. She has travelled to Italy after a journey of more than three days from one of the regions hardest hit by the fighting.

Joining the musicians on stage will be Colonel Vitalii Lytvynenko of the Ukrainian State Emergency Service, who was injured while taking part in rescue operations during bombardments in his homeland.

The initiative has been made possible through the efforts of Piero Moscardini, a former official of Italy’s National Civil Protection Department and former firefighter, together with architect Marco Colcerasa and engineer Fabrizio Colcerasa, former deputy head of the Civil Protection Department. The association "La Memoria Viva", based in Castellamonte in Piedmont and actively involved in humanitarian convoys to Ukraine, is also among the organisers.

Additional support has been provided by Rome’s Department of Culture and by the Mutual Aid Association of Firefighters and Former Firefighters, founded in 1885 to assist firefighters facing health and financial difficulties.

Rome, once home to the ancient Temple of Peace, offers a particularly fitting setting for an event dedicated to solidarity, humanitarian commitment and the hope for peace.
