On the night of May 2, Ukraine launched the "most massive" drone strike of the year against Crimea and Sevastopol, according to the Moscow-appointed "governor" Mikhail Razvozhaev.
According to the official, Russian air defense forces shot down more than 50 drones over the Black Sea "on their way to Sevastopol," as well as sea drones in its waters. Explosions were reported near Chersonesus, Sevastopol Bay, Kacha, and Balaklava.
"No objects in the city or in the waters were damaged," Razvozhaev assured.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of 89 UAVs in Crimea on the night of Friday. In total, 121 aerial targets were shot down across Russia in at least five regions, according to the department.
Meanwhile, local residents on social media reported a large fire a few kilometers from the Kacha military airfield in the village of Uglovoye. According to the monitoring group Crimean Wind, which tracks satellite images, the number of fire spots and their area increased several times within two hours.
Kacha belongs to the Black Sea Fleet of Russia and is located on the northern outskirts of Sevastopol. The airfield hosts An-26 planes, Be-12s, as well as Ka-27 helicopters.
