Ukrainian drones reportedly attacked the Ilsky Oil Refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region during the night of 2 June, according to the operational headquarters of the region. Officials said there were no reported casualties.

The Ilsky refinery is one of the largest oil processing facilities in southern Russia, with a projected annual capacity of around 6.6 million tons of crude oil. The plant produces petroleum products including gas condensate derivatives, high-sulfur diesel fuel, and fuel oil. It is primarily export-oriented and does not supply gasoline or diesel for Russia’s domestic retail fuel market.

This is reportedly the fourth attack on the facility since the beginning of the year. Earlier strikes were recorded in January and twice in February. According to monitoring data cited by the independent outlet Astra, the refinery has been targeted at least 16 times since the start of the full-scale war.

The reported strike is part of a broader pattern of intensified Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. In recent months, Ukrainian forces have increased drone strikes on refineries, pipelines, ports, and maritime fuel assets. Bloomberg estimates that in May alone there were dozens of attacks on energy infrastructure, marking a record level of activity since the start of the war.

This escalation has coincided with a decline in Russian oil refining volumes. Industry data cited by OilX shows that in May, Russian refineries processed 4.58 million barrels per day, down 2.3% from April and 14.4% compared to the start of the year. Output is also significantly lower than pre-war levels, marking a multi-year decline in refinery utilization.

In response to pressure on fuel supplies, Russian authorities have introduced restrictions on fuel exports, including gasoline and aviation kerosene. Despite these measures, reports from several regions indicate emerging fuel shortages and localized rationing.

Ukrainian military officials have not independently confirmed the strike, while damage assessments at the Ilsky refinery remain ongoing.
