US Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dan Negrea called on Ukraine and Russia to immediately end the war and engage in good-faith negotiations, stressing that the United States would play a constructive role in the reconciliation process.
“Together with President Trump, we call for an immediate end to the war and good-faith negotiations aimed at bringing this war to an end and ensuring peace and stability,” Negrea said during a UN Security Council meeting marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence and focused on the consequences of Russia’s war.
He noted that casualties on both sides continue to rise and called on all parties to stop strikes that could destroy or endanger civilian vessels.
“There is no point in striking civilians if even military targets cannot bring an end to the conflict,” the US representative said.
Negrea also stressed that the United States would play its part in a constructive process aimed at helping the parties achieve reconciliation.
