Two new border crossing points with Romania are being developed in the Zakarpattia region, including a railway crossing.

Myroslav Biletskyi, head of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration, reported this on Facebook.

“As part of the work of the thematic clusters, I presented in detail the Zakarpattia case concerning the development of border infrastructure along the Romanian section of the region’s border with the EU. Zakarpattia has around 205 km of border with Romania, and its development is one of our key infrastructure priorities,” Biletskyi said.

According to him, the first result of this work is the Bila Tserkva–Sighetu Marmației border crossing in the Tiachiv district, which is expected to begin operating in the coming days.

“Work is also continuing on opening additional border crossing points: Khyzha–Tarna Mare in the Berehove district, where the aim is to restore an international crossing that operated previously, and Yablunivka–Remeți (Huta) in the Khust district. This project has moved into the implementation phase: with support from the Interreg NEXT programme, Ukraine and Romania are already designing the future border crossing and its access roads,” Biletskyi said.

The head of the Regional Military Administration also highlighted railway logistics.

“At present, only one railway crossing, Diakove–Halmeu, operates on the Zakarpattia section of the border. Developing new railway connections will strengthen logistics resilience, create new transport hubs and expand routes for Ukrainian exports to the EU,” Biletskyi added.
