Ukrainian unmanned ground vehicle manufacturer Ratel Robotics and Canadian company General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada (GDMS-C) have signed a cooperation agreement. The companies are considering the joint production of UGVs for Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Canada, GDMS-C announced.
The companies plan to work together on Ukrainian-developed ground robotic systems in support of Ukraine. The memorandum of understanding envisages combining Ratel’s experience in developing and deploying UGVs with the Canadian company’s manufacturing capabilities.
"Unmanned ground vehicles are playing increasingly important roles in modern operations, particularly in environments where reducing risk to personnel is critical," said Joel Houde, Vice President and General Manager, General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada. "Ukraine has demonstrated how rapidly these technologies can evolve in response to operational requirements. Through this agreement, we are exploring how Canadian manufacturing and systems integration expertise can support the production of proven Ukrainian capabilities."
Ratel Robotics CEO Taras Ostapchuk confirmed the signing of the agreement. According to him, Ukrainian UGVs for the Defence Forces are planned to be manufactured in Canada.
“We are becoming an even more international business! We have signed a memorandum with General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada. Soon there will be more RATELs, and they will be manufactured in Canada for the Armed Forces of Ukraine!” Ostapchuk wrote.
General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is one of Canada’s largest defence organisations. The company operates in the fields of sonar systems, anti-submarine warfare and emerging autonomous technologies.
Ratel Robotics specialises in the development of unmanned ground vehicles. In September, the company also unveiled its first unmanned aerial vehicles.
