Ukraine is launching a separate parliamentary dialogue with the Andean region and has agreed to develop more systematic cooperation with the Andean Parliament.
Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk announced this on Facebook.
“We are launching a separate parliamentary dialogue with the Andean region. In Madrid, I met with President of the Andean Parliament Manuel José Ossandón Irarrázabal,” he said.
Stefanchuk noted that this was the first meeting between the two sides and an important step towards more systematic cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and parliamentary institutions in Latin America. He explained that the Andean Parliament brings together representatives from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
“I informed him about the consequences of the latest Russian strikes on Ukraine and the conditions in which Ukrainian cities and communities live every day. We also discussed humanitarian initiatives in which the President is ready to participate,” the Verkhovna Rada Chairman said.
The parties also discussed further deepening contacts between the Verkhovna Rada and the Andean Parliament, the participation of Ukrainian lawmakers in its events, and the development of a permanent interregional dialogue.
The Ukrainian and Andean parliaments agreed to continue this cooperation.
Stefanchuk also invited representatives of the Andean Parliament to visit Ukraine, saying he was “convinced that such a visit would provide an opportunity to see our needs first-hand and identify specific areas for further cooperation.”
“It is important for Ukraine that the truth about this war is heard in the parliaments of every region of the world — and that this dialogue translates into concrete joint action,” Stefanchuk concluded.
