Naftogaz has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the American Petroleum Institute (API), aimed at expanding the use of globally recognized standards and practices in Ukraine’s oil and natural gas sector. The agreement was signed on March 23, 2026, during CERAWeek 2026.
The partnership will enable the integration of API standards, which are widely recognized across the global oil and gas industry.
“Integration of global standards is not only about technical requirements — it is about improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of the entire sector. Cooperation with API gives us insight into leading industry practices and enables Ukrainian professionals to contribute to the development of global standards,” said Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi.
The memorandum establishes a framework for collaboration in standardization, certification, and technical exchange. It will allow Naftogaz experts to study and apply API standards, share information on applicable certifications and technologies, and adopt leading industry practices.
Dustin Meyer, Senior Vice President of Policy, Economics, & Regulatory Affairs at API, emphasized the broader significance of the partnership:
“Collaboration with Naftogaz reflects the ongoing importance of global standards in supporting safe, reliable, and efficient energy development. By expanding the use of API standards and encouraging participation in their development, this cooperation helps strengthen Ukraine’s energy security and infrastructure.”
Under the memorandum, Naftogaz specialists will also have the opportunity to participate in the development of new API standards, further aligning Ukraine’s oil and gas sector with international best practices.
