The European Union is preparing a response to Russia’s aggression in the Black Sea region, stated Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, during the Third Black Sea Security Conference of the International Crimea Platform.
“The Black Sea Maritime Security Hub will be Europe’s early warning system in the Black Sea. It will enhance situational awareness and help protect critical infrastructure. We are ready to provide all necessary support to Romania and Bulgaria to take this forward,” she noted.
She also recalled Russia’s blockade of the Black Sea, when the aggressor attempted to “starve the Ukrainian people.”

“But Moscow will not succeed a second time, neither in its attempts to starve the Ukrainian people into submission, nor in its attempt to spread this pain to the rest of the world. Instead, Russia’s behavior has rallied international support for Ukraine and pushed global attention towards the need for greater security in the Black Sea,” she said.
The politician emphasized that the European Union remains Ukraine’s top supporter, as the security of the Black Sea depends on security in Ukraine.
”The EU remains the number one supporter of Ukraine, with 195 billion euros since 2022, plus a 90 billion support loan in the works. And as we know, Russia is not interested in peace,” she said.
