The Foreign Intelligence Service of Armenia has issued an official warning about a serious threat of foreign interference in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, according to Armenpress.
According to intelligence data obtained by the agency, various actors are actively attempting to influence the outcome of the vote by exerting targeted pressure on members of the Armenian diaspora abroad.
There have been reported cases of Armenians living in a certain foreign country being coerced into supporting specific political parties. The Foreign Intelligence Service has not disclosed the name of this country.
Intelligence indicates that in this foreign country, groups are operating under the guise of local security service personnel. Their activity is directed at Armenian citizens and people of Armenian descent involved in economic activities there.
These actors are attempting to compel entrepreneurs to take actions in support of particular political forces that have already announced their intention to participate in the elections. The pressure includes demands for financial contributions and organizational support for these political entities.
