Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out targeted strikes on key Russian aviation facilities in an effort to degrade the aggressor’s military-industrial capabilities.
“On March 16, units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the infrastructure of the Aviastar aircraft plant in the Ulyanovsk area (Ulyanovsk region, Russia)… Preliminary information indicates that the climate-controlled shelters and aircraft parking areas were hit. Some of the aircraft on the premises sustained damage of varying degrees,” the General Staff’s Telegram channel stated.
Ukrainian units struck the Aviastar aircraft plant, a part of the United Aircraft Corporation under Rostec, which produces Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft, Il-78M-90A tankers, and services heavy transport planes including the An-124 Ruslan.The full extent of the destruction is still being assessed.
The following day, March 17, Ukrainian forces targeted the 123rd Aircraft Repair Plant in Staraya Russa, Novgorod region. The facility, which handles full-cycle repair and modernization of military transport aircraft and components, was struck at an aircraft hangar servicing Il-76 and L-410 planes. The plant has its own runway capable of receiving heavy aircraft directly. Details on the extent of the damage remain under verification.
The Ukrainian military has stated that strikes on strategic facilities supporting the Russian armed forces will continue until the cessation of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
