The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in the “Weapons Systems” section of the War&Sanctions portal, has published the component base and data on 31 enterprises involved in the production of Universal Planning and Correction Modules (UMPK) that Russia uses in its war against Ukraine.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate.
According to the report, UMPK modules allow the Russian forces to convert unguided aerial bombs such as the FAB-500M62, FAB-250, RBK-500, ODAB-500, ODAB-1500, FAB-3000, and others into guided munitions, the so-called glide bombs (GABs).
The planning and correction module consists of a power frame, nose fairing, folding wings, elevons and stabilizers, and is attached to the bomb using special clamps.
Target guidance is provided by the “Smart” glider control system, a satellite navigation system with a jam-resistant adaptive “Kometa” antenna (with 4 or 8 elements), and a strapdown inertial navigation system.
In 2024, the Russian forces began using FAB-500T aerial bombs equipped with extended-range UMPK-PD modules. These modules feature a larger wing area and a longer power frame, a 12-element “Kometa-M12,” and an upgraded “Smart” unit, which increases the glide range of the bombs.
The key developer of UMPK modules and the main contractor for the state defense order is the Tactical Missiles Corporation.
It is emphasized that six enterprises from the published list are still not under sanctions by any country in the sanctions coalition. Among them are JSC SKTB Kurganpribor, which carries out final assembly of the UMPK-250 and UMPK-500, and CJSC Gefest & T, which develops and installs the SVP-24 Gefest computing subsystems on the main carriers of glide bombs: the Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-24M.
“The absence of these companies from sanctions lists allows them to establish unhindered supplies of goods and technologies from abroad, as well as to arrange servicing of financial transactions by international banks,” the Main Intelligence Directorate stressed.
