Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Armin Papperger, CEO of the German company Rheinmetall AG, in London on the sidelines of the DSEI international arms exhibition.

The parties discussed effective cooperation across several areas, including the production of ammunition, armored vehicles, and air defense solutions.

“Since our last conversation, we have finalized procedures to launch the new joint production,” Shmyhal noted.

He also informed that on September 9, land was allocated in a safe region of Ukraine for the construction of a new Rheinmetall plant to produce shells for the needs of the Armed Forces.

Other important projects were discussed, including the development of capacities for the repair and production of armored vehicles. Rheinmetall’s product line includes several new models that can strengthen Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Shmyhal and Papperger also addressed the development of air defense, specifically how to jointly develop and improve solutions to more effectively counter enemy drones.

“I sincerely thank Rheinmetall for their support and for developing large-scale joint projects,” said the Ukrainian Defense Minister.
