Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, Denys Bashlyk, held a meeting with a delegation from the Spanish Bureau for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, led by Director Clara Husman Sapater.
The discussions also involved the Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Serhiy Tkachuk, representatives of relevant departments, and members of the economic and trade section of the Embassy of Spain in Ukraine.
The parties discussed strategic approaches to the recovery and development of Ukraine’s agricultural sector under martial law and in the context of European integration.
The Ukrainian side outlined key and urgent sector needs, including support for agricultural producers in frontline areas, restoration and modernization of irrigation systems, development of livestock and agro-processing, expansion of storage and logistics infrastructure, humanitarian demining of agricultural land, and challenges related to the implementation of land reform. They also noted productive dialogue in the fisheries sector and potential avenues for continued support.
Special attention was given to adapting agricultural policy to European Union requirements, integration into the EU single market, and strengthening institutional capacity within the sector. Opportunities for modernizing laboratory infrastructure were also discussed as a prerequisite for expanding export potential and ensuring compliance with EU standards.
“For us, it is important that international support is practical and results-oriented. This involves not only restoring damaged capacities but also creating a modern agricultural sector model—competitive, resilient, and integrated into the EU single market. We are also interested in partnerships that enable a shift from isolated solutions to systemic changes, creating long-term opportunities for Ukrainian producers,” said Denys Bashlyk.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue consultations on potential cooperation projects and financial and technical support tools in line with the identified priorities for the development of Ukraine’s agricultural sector.
