The European Commission will support Ukraine in integrating its agricultural sector into the European Union's single market. However, the details of how this process will unfold will become clearer only during negotiations with EU member states under Cluster 5, which could be opened as early as this year.
EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos made the statement in response to a question from Ukrinform during a briefing for Ukrainian journalists in Brussels.
Kos noted that it was too early to predict how discussions on a transitional period for Ukrainian farmers would develop.
"First, we need to start negotiations and open Cluster 5, which includes agriculture. Then we will see what concerns member states bring to the negotiating table," the commissioner said.
She also promised that the European Commission would closely monitor the process.
"We will help Ukraine prepare, including for the integration of its agricultural sector into European systems," Kos stated.
