The Ministry of Defense has codified Hornet Vision Ctrl, a system developed by Ukrainian MilTech company Wild Hornets that enables operators to control drones remotely from anywhere in the world.
It is the first remote drone control system to be codified under NATO standards and officially approved for use by Ukraine’s Defense Forces. The system includes the Hornet Vision Ctrl ground control and command station with a digital video system featuring remote operation capabilities and a unique 360-degree omnidirectional antenna, as well as equipment for remotely connecting a UAV operator’s workstation.
Hornet Vision Ctrl is technically compatible with all Wild Hornets drones that use the Hornet Vision communications system. It is currently available for procurement:
- as part of UAV systems equipped with Sting interceptor drones;
- as part of UAV systems featuring Wild Hornets Digital 10" anti-aircraft drones;
- as a standalone product.
Wild Hornets officially unveiled the Hornet Vision Ctrl remote-control technology in March this year. It forms part of the broader Hornet Vision ecosystem, which provides high-quality video transmission, reliable communications, and low-latency signal delivery over long distances — capabilities that are particularly important for the remote operation of high-speed interceptor drones.
In April, Ukrainian operators confirmed the system’s effectiveness in combat conditions, destroying enemy targets located more than 500 kilometers from the pilot’s position for the first time. They also demonstrated successful remote control of a Sting interceptor drone from outside Ukraine at a distance of approximately 2,000 kilometers.
“This technology is already helping operators remotely intercept enemy targets in the most intense sectors of the front, significantly increasing the effectiveness of Ukraine’s ‘small-scale air defense’ capabilities. In less than three months of deployment, it has been used to destroy more than 600 aerial targets, including jet-powered Shahed drones. Hornet Vision Ctrl also enables the remote operation of drones launched from land-, sea-, and air-based platforms. Deployment of the system is currently ongoing,” the company said.
