Ukraine and Romania have signed a memorandum aimed at strengthening cooperation on the development of their shared state border to support the transit of Ukrainian goods.
First Deputy Minister for Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport Serhii Derkach announced this on Facebook.
According to Derkach, the memorandum on strengthening cooperation to ensure reliable transit of Ukrainian goods is based on the updated Border Infrastructure Development Strategy of the two countries. It covers 17 border crossing points, including 10 new proposals.
Areas identified for joint work include the development and modernisation of border crossing points and access roads, railway connections, simplification of border procedures, and increased capacity for handling Ukrainian cargo at Romanian ports.
The next step is to turn the priorities set out in the memorandum into concrete infrastructure projects and attract financing for their implementation.
“The Romanian route is of strategic importance for Ukrainian logistics, especially amid ongoing Russian attacks on transport infrastructure. It is therefore important to develop infrastructure on both sides of the border in a coordinated manner and create additional routes to the EU,” the First Deputy Minister stressed.
