Ukraine’s Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi held a meeting with Latvian Defence Minister Raivis Melnis.
The key topics of the meeting included the priority needs of Ukraine’s Defence Forces, the rapid delivery of necessary equipment, support for air defence capabilities, and the development of unmanned ground systems, fibre-optic drones and middle-strike capabilities.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian side outlined the priority needs of the Defence Forces, including:
- unmanned ground systems;
- fibre-optic drones;
- middle-strike capabilities;
- air defence systems.
Yevhenii Khmara stressed that the fastest possible delivery of the necessary equipment is crucial for Ukraine.
Latvia will continue providing security assistance to Ukraine at a level of at least 0.25% of GDP annually.
Ukraine also expects Latvia to take a leading role in working with other countries and through international formats to mobilise additional assistance for Ukrainian troops.
The two sides also discussed other areas of support for Ukraine, including the rehabilitation of military personnel, training and strengthening cyber capabilities.
Particular attention was given to developing a strong and mutually beneficial partnership between Ukraine and Latvia.
Ukraine, for its part, is ready to share with Latvia its experience in countering modern threats. This includes unique expertise in conducting multi-domain operations, organising territorial defence and developing modern fortifications.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence expressed its gratitude to Latvia for its important support and willingness to build a strong and mutually beneficial partnership.
