Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov and German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius signed a letter of intent in Kyiv to launch Brave Germany — a joint program for the development of defense technologies and support for innovative startups.

The program provides grant support for Ukrainian and German startups working in critically important defense tech areas.

'Brave Germany' will be implemented together with the Brave1 defense innovation cluster and will focus on developing solutions in areas that define the future of warfare.

These include, in particular:

  • unmanned technologies
  • artificial intelligence
  • lasers
  • new communication solutions
  • missile technologies
  • and other critical defense tech areas

During the meeting, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense separately thanked Germany for decisions that strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

This includes the purchase of hundreds of Patriot missiles, funding for interceptor drones, support for the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism, and a critical initiative that helped Ukraine receive Patriot missiles during the most difficult winter period.

Mykhailo Fedorov also expressed gratitude for:

  • more than $1 billion for the development of deep strike and medium-range strike capabilities
  • support for drone-assault units — Germany became the first country to back this innovative direction
  • support for the supply of long-range artillery ammunition through the Czech initiative

Fedorov also informed the German side about the results of Ukraine’s defense strategy: to protect the skies, stop the enemy on the battlefield, and strike at the Russian economy.
