The Parliament of Moldova on Thursday adopted a Declaration marking the fourth anniversary of the start of the Russian Federation’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, condemning Russia’s aggression. The news was reported by Moldpres.

The document was supported by 65 lawmakers. Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu emphasized that Moldova stands in solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

“February 24 marked four years since the beginning of the brutal and unjustified invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. This is an aggressive war bringing death, destruction, and suffering to millions. Thousands of civilians killed, abducted children, bombed hospitals and schools, cities turned into ruins. The Republic of Moldova has been, is, and will remain in solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We are grateful to our neighbors for the courage with which they defend their freedom, their country, and their future, and for the fact that through their resistance they protect peace and security throughout the region, including the Republic of Moldova,” he said.

Grosu also noted that Ukraine continues to support Moldova even during wartime, mentioning in particular how a team of 40 Ukrainian doctors recently saved the life of a nine-month-old girl from Moldova.

According to the declaration, the Moldovan parliament condemns the brutal actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, calls for the aggressor state to be held accountable for its crimes, and supports Ukraine in achieving a just peace.

“We reaffirm the unwavering support of the Republic of Moldova for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. We also stress the importance of continued support from international partners. Providing Ukraine with the necessary means to defend itself and repel the aggressor contributes both to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and to enhancing Europe’s overall security. In this context, we once again underline the importance of further increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation,” the declaration states.

Lawmakers also appealed to the international community, national parliaments, and governments to maintain unity, determination, and consistency in supporting Ukraine. They confirmed Moldova’s readiness to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation within the regional Moldova–Ukraine–Romania format, known as the “Odessa Triangle.”

The authors emphasized that the accession of Moldova and Ukraine to the European Union is of strategic importance for the stability, security, and sustainable development of the region and Europe as a whole.
