Terra Drone begins field deployment of 'Terra A2' interceptor in Ukraine

Japanese drone technology and urban air mobility developer Terra Drone has announced the start of operational deployment in Ukraine of its fixed-wing interceptor drone Terra A2. The drone was developed in cooperation with the Ukrainian defense-tech company WinnyLab, in which Terra Drone’s subsidiary Terra Inspectioneering has invested. This step will allow the Terra A2 to be tested in real combat conditions in order to officially receive “combat-proven” status, the company said.

For developers, it is an opportunity to demonstrate that fixed-wing interceptors are effective for large-scale air defense, collect critical battlefield data, and prepare for entry into the global defense market.

In addition, Terra Drone aims to combine the new UAV with another of its developments — the Terra A1 missile interceptor drone (already deployed at the front and successfully intercepting targets). Together, they are expected to form a layered air defense system.

The Terra A2 is a fixed-wing interceptor drone designed for wide-area surveillance, long-range flight, and extended time in the air. It has a maximum speed of 312 km/h, a coverage radius of up to 75 km, and an endurance of over 40 minutes.

It is also designed to integrate with radar systems. This enables the creation of a unified fixed-wing interception platform capable of large-scale surveillance, detection, tracking, and interception of targets. In this way, the Terra A2 provides an additional layer of air defense over large areas, allowing threats to be neutralized before they reach their targets, complementing traditional air defense systems that are mainly focused on short-range interception.
