Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has advanced to the second round of the French Open (Roland Garros), which is taking place in Paris.

At the start of the second Grand Slam tournament of the 2026 season, Svitolina (world No. 7) came from behind to defeat Hungary’s top-ranked player Anna Bondar (world No. 57) in a 2.5-hour match — 3:6, 6:1, 7:6 (10:3).

Her next opponent will be the winner of the match between Spain’s Caitlin Quevedo (No. 126) and France’s Leolia Jeanjean (No. 122).

Svitolina is competing at Roland Garros for the 15th time and has entered the main draw for the 13th time. Her best results in Paris are quarterfinal appearances in 2015, 2017, 2020, 2023, and 2025.

As reported, seven Ukrainian players started in the main draw of the 2026 Roland Garros singles tournament. The competition runs until June 7.
