The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) updated its player rankings as of September 14, with Ukrainian players setting a new national record: for the first time, six Ukrainians are simultaneously ranked inside the world’s top 50, according to BTU.
Ukraine’s top-ranked women’s player, Elina Svitolina, climbed two places to world No. 7.
Marta Kostyuk also improved her position and entered the WTA top 10 for the first time in her career. The 24-year-old Ukrainian moved from 11th to 10th, setting a new career high. Kostyuk became only the second Ukrainian woman in history to reach the top 10 after Svitolina.
It also marks the first time in Ukrainian tennis history that two Ukrainian players have simultaneously been ranked inside the WTA top 10.
Four other Ukrainians are now ranked between No. 41 and No. 50. Oleksandra Oliynykova climbed five places to a career-high No. 41, while Daria Snigur gained three positions to reach a new career high of No. 42.
Yuliia Starodubtseva made the biggest jump among Ukrainians in the top 100, climbing 15 places from No. 58 to a career-high No. 43.
Anhelina Kalinina gained four positions to return to No. 47. Ukraine therefore has six players in the WTA top 50 for the first time, surpassing the previous national record of five.
Dayana Yastremska climbed three places to No. 110, while Veronika Podrez rose six positions to a career-high No. 126.
Anastasiia Sobolieva also reached a new career high, climbing 13 places from No. 194 to No. 181.
