Polish marketplace Allegro plans phased expansion into Ukraine

The largest Polish marketplace Allegro is preparing to enter the Ukrainian market and is planning to move to the first stage of its expansion as early as June.

This was reported by the Polish industry publication Wiadomosci Handlowe.

According to sources cited by the publication, the project of entering Ukraine has been divided into several stages. In the first stage, Ukrainian users will be given the opportunity to purchase goods from Polish sellers on Allegro with delivery to Ukraine.

The launch is scheduled for June, and at the initial stage several hundred Polish sellers are expected to join the program.

“We are observing a clear trend of growth in cross-border e-commerce and increased interest from foreign customers, including those from Ukraine,” the company said.

Allegro reports “preparation of a limited group of Polish partners for international export.” A group of Polish partners will be involved in the project, giving them access to a market of approximately 11.5 million active e-commerce users.

Meanwhile, sources say that Allegro plans to further develop the domain Allegro.ua and eventually open the platform to Ukrainian sellers, with integration potentially taking place next year.

According to Wiadomosci Handlowe, the company aims to enter the Ukrainian market gradually, testing demand and minimizing risks after previous unsuccessful expansion attempts in other international markets.

“Parcels from Polish sellers will be delivered to customers in Ukraine via Nova Post. This Ukrainian market leader in parcel delivery has a stronger position in its home market than InPost has in Poland,” the publication states.

Nova Post has been developing its operations for several years, focusing mainly on parcel delivery to and from Ukraine.
