More than 1,000 kilometers of railway tracks are planned to be repaired in Ukraine this year, and the work has already begun.
According to the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, railway workers plan to repair more than 1,000 km of tracks across the country in 2026. Track maintenance work started with the beginning of the spring–summer season.
“This is necessary to ensure safe train operations, prevent speed restrictions, and maintain stable capacity for both passenger and freight transportation,” the ministry said in a statement.
Repair works will be carried out in all regions of the country, including frontline areas, as well as on key logistics and transit routes.
Currently, about 150 km of rail track panels and more than 120 sets of railway switches are ready for installation. This allows work to be quickly deployed on different sections and helps minimize restrictions on train traffic.
The repairs will use rails produced by leading global manufacturers from Austria, Poland, France, Japan, the Czech Republic, and China. Railway workers will also reuse refurbished materials to ensure efficient use of resources, reduce costs, and maintain infrastructure in proper technical condition.
