The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine reports the beginning of a large-scale campaign aimed at discrediting Ukraine, accusing it of allegedly seeking to block energy supplies to the European Union.
This was reported by the Center on Facebook.
“Russia-controlled sources are spreading unverified accusations that Ukraine is engaging in ‘energy terrorism’ through an alleged attempt to block energy supplies to Europe,” the statement reads.
The main narratives of this campaign include: “Ukraine’s energy actions threaten Europeans”; “Ukraine demands money, weapons, and troops from European countries to support the war”; “the Druzhba pipeline has no technical defects, Ukraine is blackmailing Hungary”; and “Kyiv is trying to cut off gas supplies to Europe via the Turkish and Blue Streams pipelines.”
“All these narratives are false, manipulative, and spread in Russia’s interest. The Kremlin’s goal is to sow distrust between Ukraine and its European partners, portray Kyiv as an unreliable ally, and weaken the level of international support for Ukraine,” the Center emphasized.
The Center also stressed that it is Russia that systematically uses energy as a weapon against Europe and as a tool of geopolitical influence. Russia is also the party refusing to end the war and is responsible for attacks on energy infrastructure that impact European countries.
