As part of the Connecting Europe Facility program, 8 km of new "broad" railway tracks have been laid in Zakarpattia, and 7.6 km of European standard track has been installed — 40% of the work.

This was reported by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development.

"This European gauge railway opens direct access to the European railway network, significantly reduces logistics costs, enhances the efficiency of international passenger and freight transport, and creates new opportunities for the development of Ukraine's transit potential," said Oleksii Kuleba, Minister of Infrastructure.

Additionally:

  • Nearly 2 km of combined track and necessary earthworks have been prepared.

  • Work is underway on the electrification of the "broad" gauge track, cable network installation, and other tasks.

  • Renovation work has begun at the Chop railway station.

The project is now entering its final phase, according to the ministry. The construction of the European gauge railway is expected to be completed by August 2025.

In the future, the development of the European track network in Ukraine is planned.
