The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed a strike on the Omsk Oil Refinery, located nearly 2,500 km from Ukraine’s state border.

According to a statement published by the General Staff on Facebook and reported by Ukrinform,

“A strike on the facility was confirmed, followed by a fire. The extent of the damage is being assessed. According to preliminary information, the ELOU-AVT-11 primary oil processing unit, with a design capacity of 8.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year, was hit.”

The Omsk Oil Refinery has become the last of Russia’s 11 largest gasoline producers to be struck by Ukrainian forces. It is the largest oil refinery in Russia, with an annual processing capacity of more than 21 million tonnes of crude oil.

The refinery also has one of the highest oil refining depth rates in Russia, at around 99%.

The plant specializes in producing a wide range of fuels, lubricants, and petrochemical products. These include high-octane gasoline grades (AI-92, AI-95, and G-Drive 100), Euro 5 diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, as well as benzene, paraxylene, orthoxylene, specialty petroleum products, lubricants, feedstock for carbon black production, and motor and industrial oils.

According to the General Staff, the Omsk refinery plays a role in supplying fuel and petroleum products to Russian military forces involved in the war against Ukraine.
