Finland will join the international drone coalition during this spring, Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen (National Coalition Party) told Uutissuomalainen.

Latvia established the drone warfare development coalition in February 2024.

“The drone coalition was assessed over the course of last year and this year. Now I can announce that Finland will join the drone coalition this spring,” Häkkänen said.

He added that the Finnish government has been negotiating additional resources within the cabinet for Ukraine’s drone support. This will significantly increase the content of EU support for Ukraine and strengthen operational cooperation.

The grouping, which now includes more than 20 countries, aims to strengthen Ukraine by delivering drones to the front line.

The goal of the initiative is to ensure the industrial production of drones and expand the unmanned systems industry in order to create an asymmetric technological advantage over Russian occupying forces on the battlefield, in line with the needs of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

Financial contributions from participating countries in the coalition are used to fund the procurement and supply of drones for various purposes.
