European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the approval of further sanctions against Russia, emphasizing that the EU will continue to pressure the Kremlin to end the war.

She made the statement on social media platform X.

"I welcome the agreement on our 17th sanctions package against Russia. We are further restricting access to battlefield technology," von der Leyen said.

She noted that the EU is adding another 189 ships from Russia's "shadow fleet" to the sanctions list in order to block Russian energy exports.

"This war has to end. We will keep the pressure high on the Kremlin," von der Leyen emphasized.
