The leaders of the G7 agreed to increase supplies to Ukraine of air defense systems, interceptors, and long-range capabilities, as well as to strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia and help Ukraine get through the next winter.

This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron at the final press conference after the G7 summit in Évian.

According to Macron, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s participation allowed G7 leaders to hold a “deep discussion” on Ukraine and, for the first time in such wording, reach important elements of consensus.

“First and foremost — unwavering support for Ukraine, solidarity with its people, whose critical infrastructure and cultural heritage have been attacked following numerous strikes on civilians. Ukrainians have demonstrated incredible resilience, and all G7 members agreed on the need for this support — support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, as well as the fact that the balance of power has changed significantly in recent months,” Macron said.

The French President emphasized that the situation on the battlefield is now changing in Ukraine’s favor.

“Ukraine is advancing, resisting, Russia is retreating. That is why we all agreed to increase supplies of air defense systems, additional systems and interceptors, as well as long-range capabilities,” he said.

Macron also reported that during the discussions, US President Donald Trump emphasized the mobilization of the American defense industry.

“In these areas, the American President insisted on mobilizing the US defense industry, on the ability to supply such equipment. And several of us, at the request of the Ukrainians in recent months, stressed the importance of licensing and production on Ukrainian soil in order to move even faster,” Macron noted.

Separately, G7 leaders agreed to provide additional support to Ukraine to help it get through the coming winter.

“We also unanimously agreed to provide additional support to Ukraine to enable it to prepare for the next winter, with a G7 initiative to support energy infrastructure and, therefore, clearly the reconstruction of many things that have been destroyed and plunged many civilians into cold and darkness,” he said.

In addition, according to Macron, G7 leaders agreed to intensify pressure on Russia, including through expanded sanctions.

“We committed to increasing pressure, including by strengthening our sanctions. And this remobilization of the G7 to increase pressure on Russia is extremely important,” he stressed.
