Ukraine is already using robotic turrets equipped with artificial intelligence to counter drones, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Brigadier General Andrii Lebedenko, said during a briefing with journalists.
“Drones have continued to evolve, fly at higher altitudes, and have become difficult targets for mobile fire teams. Our goal was to create a new capability by combining existing weapons with robotic turrets powered by artificial intelligence,” Lebedenko said.
He noted that these systems are already operational and significantly improve engagement effectiveness while reducing the number of personnel required to operate them.
“We have created several experimental batteries that are already protecting energy infrastructure facilities and have demonstrated their effectiveness,” Lebedenko added.
According to him, these systems also allow for a significant reduction in ammunition consumption.
Lebedenko also said that Ukrainian companies are developing laser weapons.
In addition, he noted that Ukraine is continuing to adapt Soviet-era helicopters for countering aerial threats. The aircraft are being equipped with modern communication, navigation, reconnaissance and strike capabilities.
